In this article we will explain how to migrate and already existent MnDB MyData or Group server installation to a different machine.

Assuming you have your current MnDB server running in machineA and you want to migrate it to a new host, machineB:

  1. Install MnDB-Group or MyData- on server machineB.
    • Follow the standard installation procedure.
    • Make sure you place your license file into the MnDB MnServer directory.
    • Test that connection from Mnova to machineB works.
  2. Announce a short service outage.
  3. Shut down server on machineA, to prevent data loss —stop Windows service ‘Mestrelab MnDB-Group MnServer’ or ‘Mestrelab MnDB-MyData MnServer’—.
  4. Shut down server on machineB —stop Windows service ‘Mestrelab MnDB-Group MnServer’ or ‘Mestrelab MnDB-MyData MnServer’—.
  5. On machineB, rename the directory MnDB\MnServer\db1 to, for example, MnDB\MnServer\db1-ORIG.
  6. Copy the directory MnDB\MnServer\db1 from machineA to machineB.
  7. Start the Windows service on machineB.
  8. Check the connection is working again from Mnova and the data was migrated.
  9. Announce that service is restored, with the new server address machineB —if the server change implies an address or hostname change—.
